Remote Assistance Software Guide

This guide will provide you with an idea of remote assistance software operates. The basic principles are the same. It’ll give you a good feel of how operating the software is like, so you are more likely to use it.

Step 1: Download remote assistance software. You can download a free copy and install it on at least two computers. Check out the remote assistance software review page to choose a software. We recommend Teamviewer. It’s free and very user friendly. Again, note that you need at least 2 computers to make this work. One computer will act as the remote machine (the system that you will be controlling), and the other will act as the admin (the one you will be using). Make sure that both computers are connected to the Internet.

Step 2: Configure remote machine. The next thing you must do is to configure your remote machine. Usually, an IP will be assigned to the remote machine and you can connect using the IP address alone. However, the IP address is not easy to remember. So you should give the remote machine a nickname. This is used to identify the remote machine. You will be able to use this nickname to log on to the remote system later on. Once you are done with the configuration, leave the software running on the machine. For instance, if you are using Teamviewer, leave Teamview running on the computer. If you exit the software, you wouldn’t be able to connect to the machine.

Step 3: Connect using Admin machine. Now go to your admin machine and try to connect to the remote computer using your remote assistance software. You can connect using IP or nickname (if you have chosen one). Once connected, you will be able to see the screen of the remote computer. For example, you are able to see the desktop of the remote computer and you can act as if you are sitting right in front of it. Try launching some software, closing applications, etc. Everything will work. If your software permits, you can also try downloading and uploading some files.

If you are doing this little experiment from your home, the connection should be very fast and the software should work without any lag. Note that this is not always the case. Sometimes, when you are traveling, you may be trying to connect to the home computer from another region. If the Internet connection is slow, you may experience some lag. This problem is slowly being resolved as infrastructure keeps on improving. First, it’s fast speed dial up. Now it’s cable speed or DSL speed. Soon, we will have fiber optic broadband in all major cities. When that happens, remote assistance software will work like a charm.
